Platinum Jubliee

Gist (Insurance Brokers) Ltd will be in good company this year celebrating their Platinum Jubilee on the 1st of July, the company was formed by two brothers Douglas and Reg Gist initially operating from Barclays Bank Chambers before moving into Rockland Place in Well Street, following Reg’s passing in 1968 Douglas continued on his own until his son Jeremy joined him on the 1st of July 1973 and subsequently as the operation expanded and computers arrived with Jeremy, on the 1st of July 1976 they moved into their current office in Fore Street, just around the corner from Rockland Place and only three doors away from their original home in Barclays Bank chambers, it’s fair to say that whilst the business has grown and technology moved on a great deal the brokerage hasn’t moved far from its birth place.  The company’s original routes can in fact be traced even further back as Jeremy’s grandfather was the local representative for London & Manchester from 1924 and the family have been providing both personal and commercial insurances with a simple maxim, which in todays marketplace dominated by call centres and telephone queuing systems is more relevant than ever “We won’t keep you hanging on”.  Jeremy is very proud of the companies history and that despite his love of gadgets and technology they still offer old fashioned face to face and personal service, not only initially but throughout the year as one client commented recently  “Jeremy was here dealing with my claim before the fire brigade had even left”.

As FCA registered insurance brokers and members of the Cobra network they have access to a wide range of products for personal and commercial policies, many of which can be tailored to an individuals requirements, as well as the standard home, motor, shop, office, liability and so on enquiries are always welcome for the more unusual risks such as unoccupied properties, park and holiday homes, non-standard construction etc. Jeremy has insured some interesting things over the years ranging from Hot Air Balloons to Multiple Births Risks!

During the recent pandemic Gist Insurance Brokers never closed, naturally additional precautions were put in place, video calling services were added etc so that their clients could be confident that if needed they wouldn’t be kept hanging on, after all fires, floods, storms and accidents weren’t in lockdown so why not support a local business with a proud history of serving our area.

Green Card Update

BREXIT AND GREEN CARDS UPDATE

Green Cards are no longer needed for EU driving

As of 2 August 2021, our customers no longer require a Green Card if they’re planning on driving in most European countries (including the Republic of Ireland).
The European Commission has announced that the UK will be part of the Green Card Free Circulation area, which includes all EU countries as well as Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Serbia, Norway and Switzerland.
This means if our customer is planning to drive their vehicle in the EU (including to the Republic of Ireland), they no longer need a Green Card to demonstrate they’ve appropriate insurance cover in place.
However, they may still need a Green Card if they’re travelling outside of the Green Card Free Circulation area and we arrange for an insurer to issue them for our customers if they request one.

The Market is changing

There is no doubt that in the past few weeks we have noticed a really rather swift change sweeping over the insurance marketplace, rate are increasing and more and more insurers are withdrawing from certain sectors which is restricting the choice available to the consumers, it really does show how important your local broker – linked in to a larger network is.
