After more than fifty years as an insurance broker I ask myself why should people use a broker, I still think the answer is the same as it was when I started, Insurance is far more complex than most people assume, Should I tell my insurers I have solar panels? What class of use do I need for my motor insurance, Whats is fronting? etc etc. Currently there is an advert running on TV encouraging people to use a pension company that doesn’t put them in bucket – computers are wonderful but there are a lot of people who don’t fit in a set number of preset boxes – we use computers but as tools for HI (human interaction) not to drive AI.
The internet does not make a person a better risk, call centres and adverts are expensive so the perceived saving often simply don’t add up either.
53 years broking – 70 in May – older, wiser, maybe
